DaMarques Johnson (16-11) will now replace an injured Pascal Krauss (10-1) at UFC on FUEL TV 5 and take on Gunnar Nelson (9-0-1). Rich Attonito was the original replacement, but ended up pulling-out due to worries about making weight. The event will take place at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England, on Sept. 29.
UFC officials confirmed the bout via their UFC on Fox Twitter page.
UFC on FUEL TV 5 will feature a headline bout between Stipe Miocic and Stefan Struve, who will face off in a heavyweight showdown. The main card will air LIVE on FUEL TV with the prelims expected to air on Facebook.
DaMarques Johnson last fought at the “UFC on Fox: Shogun vs. Vera” event in August, where he suffered a second round knockout loss against Mike Swick. Prior to that he dropped a second round submission loss to John Maguire at the “UFC on Fuel TV: Gustafsson vs. Silva” event in April. Johnson’s most recent victory was at UFC on FOX 1, where he scored a first round knockout victory over Clay Harvison in November 2011. He will no doubt look to get himself back into the win column with a good performance against Nelson.
Undefeated fighter Gunnar Nelson is currently riding a nine fight winning streak, most recently defeating Alexander Butenko via first round submission at the “Cage Contender XII” event in February. Prior to that he scored a first round submission over Eugene Fadiora at BAMMA 4 in September 2010. Nelson will be making his UFC debut against Johnson, so you can expect him to go for the big win.
