Anderson “The Spider” Silva has released a post-operation picture of himself with his family via his Twitter account. The former UFC middleweight champion is currently recovering from a horrific broken leg suffered during his matchup against current titleholder Chris Weidman at UFC 168.
The eye-opening footage and images of Anderson’s leg snapping whilst throwing a leg kick at Weidman’s leg during their main event title bout has been a hot topic in the MMA community this week. Members of the media and fans around the world have been speculating on whether or not the Brazilian star will return to the sport following such a serious injury. Regardless, Anderson looks very happy in the picture with his family and probably just wants to focus on getting better before deciding what’s next.
Here is the text that accompanied the picture on Anderson’s Twitter page:
“I want to say thank you to all my fans and friends to support me at this moment,I wish a great and happy 2014 to all”
Silva is in the final stages of his career as a fighter and many people feel it wouldn’t be worth him returning to the cage. Viewed by many as the greatest martial artist of all time, Silva is now fighting for his legacy in the sport, he has already lost the middleweight title that he held for so long and continuing to chase it may not be the best choice going forward.
That said, “The Spider” hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down in his recent performances and appears to have a passion to continue fighting. It’s definitely worth if for him financially, after all, he banked a $600k purse for his loss to Weidman this past weekend. I’m sure we will know Anderson’s thoughts soon enough, but for now lets just wish him all the best with his recovery.
