• UFC on Versus 5 Analysis: Chris Lytle, Donald Cerrone & Ben Henderson were all victorious!

  •

I hope you watched UFC on Versus 5 because if you didn’t then you missed out on a great night of MMA fights. There were some real technical matches and also the main event which was simply a stand up war between Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle. That fight ended in a submission victory for Lytle which marked the end of his career in MMA, Chris has decided to leave the sport after many years of action to focus on his family. Two significant victories that are worth pointing out from the night are Donald Cerrone over Charles Oliveira and Ben Henderson over Jim Miller. I will start with Cerrone who basically showed his strong striking power and ability against Oliveira. There has been a lot of hype over the Brazilian fighter but Donald showed us that there is a lot more to MMA then just hype. The fight ended with Charles Oliveira on the ground taking a barrage of punches to the head which lead to referee stopping the fight. This is “the cowboy’s” 5th straight MMA victory and he is now a concrete top contender in the Lightweight division. The other fight I have to mention was between Jim Miller and Ben Henderson. Wow! this fight was probably my favorite of the night. Henderson really showcased his skills and showed how much of a well rounded MMA fighter he is. Ben is a former WEC champion and is on a warpath to get UFC gold around his waist. Before the fight took place I think alot of people thought that Jim Miller would just carry on his winning streak and you can’t blame them, before the fight Miller had a 7 fight win streak – which is massive! On the night Henderson showed that when it is your night to shine win streaks and past victories can mean nothing. Miller never really got himself involved in the fight. Ben basically dominated with superior and damaging striking and a high level ground game which saw him attempt and also evade submission attempts. This all resulted in a very decisive victory for Ben Henderson who is easily becoming one of my favorite fighters in the octagon. Overall a great night of action and something for everyone. Technical battles, stand-up wars….we had it all! Well done again UFC!

    Thanks guys,
